Night #2

So, today I went to Victoria BC with the family and had a blast eating fish and chips at the Fisherman's Wharf in the warm sun!! Today I saw a huge, gigantic spruce tree which looks really really old, like it looked older than 800 years! Umm, what else...??
Tonight will be my second night in the dorm, and I'm going to force myself to go to the kitchen and make myself a cup of tea in the morning, and then I'm going to knock on my bathroom mate's door and introduce myself etc etc.
Oh and I might go for a run somewhere tomorrow morning and then do stuff like that. To get back into the swing of things!!

30 Days Away & Moving into Residence

Hey y'all!! I haven't been on here foreverrrrr, but for quite a good reason--I've been camping for the past 30 days-no electricity, no internet and definitely no phones or computer! No showers (washing has been limited to a small amount of water in a bucket, and washing hair under cold taps!) although, I'm pretty used to getting brain-freezes under those taps because I've been doing it since I was knee-high to a grasshopper! So camping was hectic, quite the long haul. First off, when we started out, Eugenie (my france exchange student partner from 2008) and her family came over from France and rented a motor home, and we traveled with them for the first few days.  Communication was rusty and because my parents didn't speak french and her parents didn't speak english, it was up to the kids to communicate. But we ended up getting a few communication issues- for example, we were on the way to Lake Louise, we had spoken to them the night before and came to the conclusion that we would like to leave Calgary at 9:00 am, and so we'd arrive in Lake Louise at around 1pm and we'll meet them there. We ended up getting a text at 9:00 am saying that 'we're here! Where are you?" we were quite shocked as we actually hadn't left the house yet...!! but overall it was quite a nice little adventure. From Lake Louise, we went up to Jasper which is always a beautiful place to visit and after seeing 3 bears, thought it was definitely well worth the trip further up north. On the 7th of August, my brother and I returned to Calgary for a very special reason! the YANNI  CONCERT!!! yippeee!! I won free tickets and they were fantastic seats! On the first balcony in the front row of the Jubilee Auditorium!! THE CONCERT WAS SPECTACULAR!! I <3 Yanni very very much! I also couldn't resist from buying myself a Yanni shirt for a memoir of the once in a lifetime event!! okay, so after long hot showers, the day after the concert, we left for Nakusp with our sailboat to meet our parents and little brother. It was a long 8 hour drive + a short 1/2 hour ferry ride, but luckily on my iPod, I have 5.4 hours of Yanni music!! And the the remaining time, we listened to random stuff. We arrived in Nakusp that evening at around 7 pm. Our days in Nakusp were eventful-full of beautiful, warm, sunny weather, sailing and swimming all day long, reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami(best book ever!) and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (another fantastic book!), visiting the Japanese Gardens and Japanese Memorial Centre in New Denver, about the Japanese Internment Camps in the Second World War. Strong people, to put up with all that was done to them. Even though most of them were in fact Canadian Citizens, gives a bad outlook on citizenship, don't you think?
After those wonderful 2 weeks, we moved on to Englishman River Falls in Qualicum, Vancouver Island. We stayed there for 2 nights to await our reservation in Green Point, Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It was gorgeous there, and I absolutely love the sea! It was gorgeous all the sunsets--glowing orange and pink, and as soon as I get the photos I will make sure I share their beauty with you! Definitely one of the places to visit before you die.
So we stayed 7 days there, and one of those 7 days, I attended my university orientation, and moved myself (mostly) in and then I returned to Tofino and Ucluelet. And now, my family is staying in a commercial campground with both electricity and flush toilets and showers(!!), and me, I just slept my first night in residence! My room is small and cute. Last night, I felt utterly abandoned and I still haven't gotten the guts to go visit the communal kitchen to make myself a cup of tea or coffee this morning......but oh well. it'll happen sooner or later. However, I think I should have gone when I first woke up because I don't think there were very many people up which would have been a good time to go, I've heard a few people this morning since the clock hit 9 am. I haven't spoken to my bathroom buddy yet, but that'll probably happen later.
My dad just poked his head through my window, so I'll have to leave you now, because we're visiting Victoria!!!

Packing

Hey y'all! Today was my last roving day, and, to be honest, it wasn't that good. We met a really mean grumpy old lady, who didn't want to know anything of anything. She didn't care, if we were selling, asking her to save people's lives- she didn't want to know anything, but all I could say was ' Have a good day!' But whatever, I mean, I just hope that she doesn't count on the blood services to save her life, no matter how grumpy she was, she didn't have to be so mean about it. She could've just said, 'No, I'm not interested." She didn't have to say what she said. I do understand where they're coming from though. I'm not particularly fond of people who do what I'm doing, but I'm never, ever rude about it. Oh well, it was the last day of that for me for the rest of the summer!
What else? I've started packing today too. In plastic bags mind you, not something people picture when moving houses. For me, I've got 2 small cardboard boxes, plus my printer box, but everything else is in plastic bags- orange rubbish bags. I can't believe I'm leaving on Saturday! Or sunday, I suppose, depending. Oh, and I'm probably not going to update this blog for the whole of August, because I don't think I'll be in range of internet. Not that I have many or any readers anyway haha! Oh well! Yeah, so I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the summer!

July 17

Booked my appointment for my next blood donation...really late. But that's okay! Recently, after my second ever rove, I was surprised as to how many people are actually afraid of needles, or just don't want to know anything about saving people's lives. (Also it surprised me as to how many people are from out of town...) It's not like we're selling them something...we're asking them to save peoples lives... I can't remember if I've shared this line before but one of the girls at my school says something like Even if you're afraid of needles, some people are afraid of dying! and it's quite amazing as to how many people actually agreed to donate afterwards. haha, kind of funny, eh? I mean, the needle is in your arm to around 7 minutes, and to me, it hurts less than a flu shot. and yes, the first time I donated, I almost fainted.So I have been there, but I still went back the second time and now the third time is coming!! When I move to Nanaimo, there are mobile clinics that come 8 minutes away from campus which is totally awesome, so I won't stop giving blood here! I am totally a huge supporter of the Canadian Blood Services and I definitely hope to continue giving blood until the day I die. Yay!

July 16

So as it's July 16th today, this means I'm on my second week of summer holidays! And so far, i've been having lots of fun! I've been volunteering at Stampede Breakfasts for the Blood Services to recruit donors- it's been difficult, but there have been a few people who are willing. Last week was really hot, around 30 Celsius, a little too hot for me, but it's better than being cold like it was last summer. I've been reading a lot, which is fantastic for me-I need to catch up all the reading I couldn't do during the year! We watched some home videos last night of when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper, and I have to say I had the chubbiest cheeks I have ever seen. then I saw one clip, and I was reading a story to my dad, but I was only three...turns out that even though my fingers were on the words as I was reading, I was making it up very convincingly as I went along. Maybe I was made for the stage after all  haah!! I think that's all for now!

No idea what the title should be for this one!

One more exam to go....I've been thinking, (dangerous.... but I did it anyway) and if I don't like theatre or tourism, I want to go into nursing, I don't have the right grades to go to medical school, but nursing I could probably do, and I found this program for bilingual nursing in a school not to far away, and I thought that would be really cool...but I'm hoping I'll really like theatre so that won't have to happen.. and one other thing, I totally have to loose weight, I've been eating way to much and not burning enough calories...and once exams are over, instead of running once to twice a week, im going to start running everyday again like last year! and intensely watching how much I eat and everything, I should be fine....but really, I've been feeling so...well...fat and its making me uncomfortable.. I couldn't stand not eating, so that's not going to happen, but I need to intesnely moderate how much I'm eating I think, that would be good!
Anywayss, I got a haircut yesterday, and I got a fringe for the first time since grade 3!!! Everyone's been saying, wow you look younger, me: yippee. but I really like it, however, my hair dresser cut it a little too short, but it'll grow out soon, so it's all good, and I think I've decided on keeping my fringe but growing out the rest of my hair like it was before I cut my hair really short in July. hmmm, what else, is there?? Oh, I did my first volunteering hours with the Canadian Blood Services, that was quite fun however, we were in a Cancer Centre recruiting people...which was full of nurses, doctors or cancer patients and sick people, so it wasn't a very successful location, but I mean we were there to mainly advertise for the nurses and doctors there, which was really cool, and we met a little girl, age 11 who had recently been cured of her cancer, which was totally awesome! She was a really amazing little girl, I have to say! She hung out with us for a half hour waiting for her doctor to come and have her check-up, which made me think, either going to medical school and being a doctor or a nurse would be really cool! I think, and the 2 ladies I was volunteering with, one of them said if she had discovered this sooner, she would've wanted to become a pediatrician in the oncology department. But she says that she can't go to medical school now because she's too old, even though she's only like 23 and she's gotten a degree in political science. I don't believe her though, I think she should do it anyway, she's still young and she should do what she really wants to do, otherwise, yes, she will get too old to do it. If I do go into the medical field, if I don't like theatre, I have no idea what department I would like to go into...it all depends.. However, if I do choose the medical field, before I start, I think I'd want to go volunteer abroad and do medical assisting to see if I would really like the medical field. Well, I think that's all for tonight!

Exams

So, Today I wrote my first diploma so now I only have 4 more to go! Yippee, then I'm done for the rest of my life!! I will be over soon! It was quite hard to say good-bye to my drama class but it was do-able and we took lots of class pictures <3 I will miss that bunch of happy kids <3 Anyway, July is coming up and I will be volunteering with the Blood Donation Clinic which will be a blast, trying to recruit new donors and such. I think it will be a great experience for me and I will gain my confidence yay! Tomorrow is my next diploma and afterwards a friend and I will be going to get Bubble Tea which it yummy!! So it should be good, i'm very excited for school to finish! I want to be able to sit in the sun and read!! which I haven't been able to do all year, so it should be very relaxing! I'm a little nervous for my math diploma however, but as I am taking a diploma prep I should be okay! Well, wish me luck, and I wish everyone else luck on their exams!
