New (to me) Skis!!

Yesterday, I went up to Banff to spend the day, and to look at some skis! After a wonderful bright day, of eating healthy earthy food which tasted fantastic, and spending a few dollars on little trinkets- I also bought some yellow skis! They're about 4 years old- well worn, but in excellent condition! I'm super excited to ski with them.

Today has been gorgeous- nice and sunny- I think it reached 13, even though the forecast was 20. But it was nice temperature outside. We opened all the windows in the house, sat outside and drank tea, and baked a lot-( when I say a lot- I mean A LOT), and even did a wonderful thai style dinner! Absolutely delish, it I do say so myself.

Flight Update

I've changed the dates for my departure- instead of June 7 (which my mum realized would only give me 3 days in Auckland.. ) I'm leaving on May 31, giving me more like 10 days. XD

I'm halfway through getting my tax file number, which is good. I hope it will leave me enough time!

Nakiska & Cranford

Yesterday, my dad, little brother and I went to Nakiska, mainly to use my free passes I had acquired during my awesome season of fantastic teaching! The snow was absolutely soft and wonderful, it was a few inches of fresh snow on packed, so it was really nice on the edges! Then my little brother decided he would like to try a back country mogul run. I only came along just in case someone died. Um, the powder was super deep which made it really hard to ski on. My skis stopped abruptly, and I did not so I fell over. Then I got up and made it to the actual mogul run. Which was extremely difficult. One because it was deep powder two because there were hard packed moguls underneath the powder so you couldn't tell where you were supposed to go or where the moguls are. So I kept on getting thrown off balance because my skis would randomly stop because of the powder, and then they'd hit a mogul so they accelerated quite rapidly into the next powder pit in which they would come to a complete halt- causing me to faceplant- luckily into a pit of powder-and loose a ski. How much fun did I have. Oh, and also there were random baby trees sticking out of the ground, so in case the powder pits and moguls didn't make you fall over, you'd be sure to catch an edge on a hidden baby tree.
Other than that, the day was marvelous.
At around 2:00, the base area had warmed up to 10 degrees, creating the snow at the bottom to turn to sticky slush. So while skiing to the base, you're skis felt like they had the emergency brakes on, and you jittered and had a seizure while trying not to fall over while skiing down to the bottom, which made our day.

Today, I went over to Lalaina's place! It was a blast, and we watched Cranford. It was pretty awesome, but more gory then I would have thought. And absolutely hilarious!

Best week ever!!

Skiing With Ma Cousine!

Today, I went skiing with Amber at Lake Louise, what a day it was! It was gorgeous! Although, we had some runs of flat light, but overall it was excellent. Such a blast! I can never remember myself talking so much...wow, but it was a super awesome day! We went ripping down those slopes! Wonderful snow, little bits of sunshine and even a little floating snowfall!
Pardon the awful quality-

Tomorrow, also looks like it'll be filled with skiing adventures- this time at Nakiska!

Skiing At Lake Louise!

Yesterday, I went on the staff ski trip to Lake Louise, it was so much fun I'm going to have to start from the beginning...!

I woke up at 5 am, and ate a boring breakfast of cereal with my daddy. I went over the bag I had packed the night before: ski boots, snow pants, gloves, helmet and goggles. I added my lunch and waterbottle and a neckwarmer. It wasn't supposed to be too cold, but you could never tell. I donned my jacket and dad drove me to COP. At COP, I arrived at 6:30 am. The buses left at 7, so I decided I'd like to be at least 1/2 an hour early. I was the first one there. But it was quite okay, because I got first dips on the Tim Horton's coffee and donuts that our fabulous administrator brought! At around quarter to 7, more people started showing up- so I didn't have to eat by myself. I helped my friend Karlyn bring her skis and boots out of her car and into the parking lot as the coach showed up. Everyone on the ski trip loaded the bus and we set off at about 7:20 after waiting for the last few stragglers.
Two hours later we arrived! It was pretty empty, so we pretty much had the hill to ourselves. We unloaded the bus, and we all found our equipment and walked into the lodge to get ready. The first lift was up the gondola. The snow was quite nice in the morning, however, the first run were the moguls. Wonderful. Everyone knows how I love the moguls. Well, I didn't end up falling over which was excellent, and I felt that I looked so funny- I couldn't keep from giggling. I was skiing with Karlyn, Luke and Hana at first. Then later we were joined by the team leads and two more ski instructors: Eric, Niall, Ryoko and Sarah. We did a good few more runs, and because Karlyn wasn't feeling very well, she went in. The weather was quite good, not sunshine, but not flat light either. There was a layer of cloud hanging over the sun for the whole day, but still enough light shone through that we could see all the lumps and bumps on the snow. We hit a few more mogul runs, in which I got tutored by Eric on how to handle moguls properly. He said I was doing good, but I don't know. I think he was just being nice. Then we went to join Hana and Luke who had left earlier to warm up their hands, and Karlyn for lunch.
After a nice relaxing hour long lunch, we hit the slopes again. Just the 6 of us this time; Ryoko- our very own mountain guide, Sarah, Luke and Hana and Karlyn. In the afternoon, it was a little warmer outside, and we went all the way to the top of the mountain which felt like the top of the world!! We had to take a tow rope up which was quite fun but still a little scary- because it was quite steep where it took you, and when you let go at the top the handle would swing wildy and it seemed to be so close it would come and hit you in the face- but it didn't.  It was magnificent and so silent on top! We had a hike up a little to get to the top of the run, which made it even more of an adventure. The snow was soft and powdery and silent. It was wonderful to ski on! The bowl was quite deep snow which I didn't like very much because my skis are not powder skis so they sink and you don't go very fast. But if I stuck to the path the snow there was very nice, that little layer of silent powder..ahh was SO NICE!! Which the other 5 braved the deep, steep, bumpy stuff, I slided down the slope I enjoyed. We did that run twice because I requested it. It was so wonderful! We made our way back at 2:45 pm, we arrived back at the lodge at 3:20 where we got a drink and changed back to our travel clothes. The bus arrived at 4, and it left at 4:20. The 2 hour long ride was filled with the music of a harmonica and drunken singing, which helped, I'm sure, the tired ones to sleep. ;)
We arrived in Calgary at 6 pm and gosh it had been such a wonderful day! The bus got all bumpy and jerky just about 1/2 an hour out of Calgary- and as Dad picked me up, we found out why- we drove by the bus which had a wiggling back wheel. Good stuff. I said good-bye to Luke, Hana, Sarah, Karlyn and Ryoko as this was probably the last time I was going to see them until next winter season!
But was it a wonderful day!! It was fantastic, cruising down those powdered slopes like a bird in the sky! WAHOO!!

Important Documents under my nose

Today is all about the documents. It seems like I'm working through piles of paper, and not getting very far because there is one document that is necessary for all the other ones that I haven't got yet. But I suppose it'll sort itself out!

Tomorrow is the Lake Louise Staff Ski Trip which is super exciting. I can't wait because it'll be a blast! The buses leave at 7 from COP, and they leave Lake Louise at 4, so a full day of skiing! Weee!!

I've also been doing other nonsense: starting to write with my left hand which isn't so bad, but I think it looks like the handwriting of a grade 3er- (however, i think it's still better than my little brothers)...!! I've also begun to refresh my memory with my Japanese which I had sort of dropped...which is not a good thing at all! After all that hard work... I'm finding it hard to remember the alphabet! D: which is absolutely horrifying!!

So I guess I better tighten my belt and stick my nose under those darn papers again!

Another step!!

Last night, I booked my flights!!!! So it's done!!

AHH

I'm going on June 7!!!! SO EXCITED!!

Also last night, I went to a good-bye party for one of the snowboard instructors- and it was actually lots and lots of fun! There were some quite hilarious moments...!! Spoke to lots of people, met people and it was lots and lots of fun.

Organizing more!

So I've just had my first few days off as an unemployed girlie. All I can say is I don't mind it one bit. Mum is making sure that I am busy, doing some small chores here and there which of course I don't mind doing at all. I've been running errands and planning my next adventure which is really exciting still for me. (nope, I haven't gotten sick of planning yet!)

But now I have a dilemma though- I can either stop off at Auckland twice, or buy a new pair of skis and visit Auckland once. Because a trip to Auckland is about the same price as new skis. So I'll still have to think about it- it's quite a tough one.

I still have a little while to discuss and think about it- I would really like a new pair of skis- but I'd quite like to visit Auckland twice as well...so I don't know how to decide...but I'm sure I'll figure it out!

I am quite excited about this new adventure- we're looking into flights and how the best way is to organize them, which is going quite smoothly which makes it all the more exciting.

Last day at COP

Wow, I finished my last day at COP today!! To be honest, I don't feel any different about it now that it's gone. I'm sure I'll start missing it in a week or two, but I can wait until then. Anyway, it's not like I'll be having a huge break from skiing. It looks like I'm going to Norquay on Wednesday, Nakiska on Friday and Lake Louise on Monday! Then I'll probably be done skiing in Canada.

But what a day to end on! Today, I think my preschoolers ate something magical for breakfast, because all the things they didn't do yesterday, they completed today- no problemo! It was like having different children to work with! But honestly, it was one of the most fantastic days I've had at COP- especially for preschool!

The weather today was the same as yesterday- foggy although it was much much icier...I almost slid into an intersection....but I didn't so it's all good! And I even slowed down earlier and went alot slower than I usually do- expecting the roads to be like an ice rink- and even then I still slid around!! A little freaky, but I made it to work safe and sound. The fog cleared up by noon, and it was just cloudy and snowing. The snow was alright- there were some sections of sheer ice and then you would hit a clump of fresh snow which would stop you in your tracks and make you fall over--I had a few kids do that...funny to watch..but then it grew tiring after a while, because I had to hike back up to help them stand up again. But overall, fantastic day, roaring like dinosaurs.

This morning, we shared stories of what's happened to kids while we've been teaching- I heard lots of stories of boogers and peeing pants and even vomiting on the hill--which I am so glad I didn't get to see!! Although, I must say I've experienced some pretty good booger stories... (I know where the phrase snotty nosed kid comes from!)

Alright, well that's it for me!

Last Weekend :(

This is the last weekend at COP for me..how sad...however to make up for the sadness, there's a staff ski trip happening to Lake Louise in 1 week! So I'll see everyone again there too, so no worries ;) And this weekend, they've given me the delights of preschool! Yippee! Come to me 3-5 year olds! And what's really quite nice is that I have all 3 levels today and tomorrow, so I forgive the horridness! But, honestly, I am quite sad to be leaving COP...it's been a wonderful season!

But my life is moving forward! How exciting is my upcoming trip! Woot woot!

Though, the weather today has been weird...it's been so foggy and wet, it's been misting and because it's below freezing- there has been a huge amount of ice stuck on the car windows that I've had to scrape off..so that definitely won't be missed!  Tomorrow it's supposed to snow, but still the foggy wetness...the more fun I suppose we have when skiing! Considering you can't see within 3 feet in front of you!

Last night, I saw quite a good movie- Passengers. I loved the storyline..very interesting!!

Well, I'm quite tired after my long day of preschool- being screaming starfish and octopi and howling wolves and yodeling goats or something... so this blog is probably all over the place! Oh well!!
